Korean Convenience Store Food: 3 Meals + Banana Latte

Choose three easy Korean convenience-store meals, from ramen and tuna-mayo gimbap to an egg sandwich, plus a banana-milk iced coffee recipe.

It is late, you are hungry, and the convenience-store fridge somehow has more choices than a restaurant menu. Do you grab the triangle rice ball, a spicy noodle cup, or the little banana milk you have seen everywhere?

For a first meal, start with soup noodles and a tuna-mayo triangle gimbap. Want something richer? Try spicy noodles with a slice of cheese. Not in the mood for heat? An egg sandwich and banana milk make an easy, no-cooking pair.

Then there is the fun extra: turn that banana milk into an iced coffee. Below are three meal ideas and a simple mixing guide, so you can go in with a plan and still enjoy browsing.

1. Soup noodles + tuna-mayo triangle gimbap

Buy: one soup-style noodle cup, such as Nongshim Yukgaejang, and one tuna-mayo triangle gimbap.

This is our starting recommendation when you want a hot meal without turning the store counter into a kitchen. You get the noodles and their spicy broth, plus rice, seaweed and a creamy tuna filling in a compact little package.

The interesting part is the contrast. Keep the gimbap beside the noodles and alternate bites: the rice gives you something more substantial to eat, while the seaweed has its best chance of keeping its texture. Dropping the whole triangle straight into the broth makes it softer quickly, so start with a small bite if you want to try it that way.

  1. Pay for both items, then make the noodle cup according to its lid.
  2. Follow the gimbap wrapper’s numbered opening tabs. Heat it only if and as its package directs.
  3. Eat the rice alongside the noodles, adding a spoonful to the broth only if that sounds good to you.

Choose this when: you want warm soup and a little more than noodles alone. If you dislike chilli heat, move straight to the sandwich combination below. Tuna mayo does not make a spicy noodle cup mild.

Pick the plain tuna-mayo filling if you do not want an extra spicy variation.

2. Spicy cup noodles + one slice of cheese

Buy: one Shin Ramyun cup and one individually wrapped slice of processed cheese, or the smallest cheese pack that makes sense for your trip.

If you like a richer bowl, this is an easy variation. A cheese slice adds a creamy, savoury element to the hot noodles. You still get a spicy meal, just with a different texture from the straight broth-and-rice combination.

Cook the noodles as directed first. Unwrap the cheese, lay it over the hot noodles, and stir it in as it softens. Starting with one slice keeps the addition simple; you can decide whether you want more next time.

The catch: cheese adds richness and saltiness, and the noodles remain spicy. This is a good choice for someone who likes both cheese and chilli, rather than a workaround for someone who cannot tolerate spicy food.

You can eat a ready-to-eat boiled egg alongside if you want another item. For the store equipment itself, our first convenience-store visit guide covers hot water, microwaves and paying.

3. Egg sandwich + banana milk

Buy: a chilled egg sandwich without a spicy sauce, plus original Binggrae banana-flavoured milk.

This is the easy choice when you have had enough spicy food for the day—or simply want breakfast without cooking. Soft bread and an egg filling give you the savoury part; the banana milk is the sweet part.

Look at the filling rather than the sandwich’s colour or a familiar brand name. Plain egg, egg mayo and an egg sandwich with a spicy sauce are different choices. If you want to keep it simple, choose a filling and sauce you already enjoy.

The original banana milk comes in a distinctive rounded bottle. It is a sweet, dairy-based drink, not a fresh-banana smoothie. If sweet drinks are not your thing, swap it for water or plain milk and let the sandwich do the work.

Choose this when: you want a quick, no-heat meal. Keep chilled food cold until you are ready to eat, rather than carrying it around through an afternoon of sightseeing.

Bonus: make a convenience-store banana milk latte

Want to do something a little more fun with that banana milk? Add hazelnut coffee. You get the sweet banana flavour with a coffee twist, and splitting one milk bottle and one coffee pouch between two cups makes the quantities easy to remember.

Choose CU Delaffe Hazelnut Flavor Americano, 230mL. Look for 헤이즐넛향아메리카노 / HAZELNUT FLAVOR AMERICANO on the pouch. Pair it with Binggrae original Banana Flavoured Milk, 240mL—the yellow drink in the familiar rounded bottle.

At CU, look for the coffee with the Delaffe pouch drinks and the banana milk in the chilled section. The ice cups are separate purchases. Here is how to divide those two products into two drinks.

Ice first, then banana milk, then coffee

  1. Get the ice cups ready. Open the lids or peel off the seals. A purchased ice cup already contains ice, so you do not need to add more. If the ice leaves too little space for your drink, remove a little before pouring.
  2. Divide the banana milk between the cups. Hold the bottle close to the rim and pour slowly. Each cup gets half a bottle, about 120mL. Put the cups side by side and alternate small pours to make splitting it easier.
  3. Split the coffee between them too. Tear the pouch open at its notch, then pour half—about 115mL—into each cup. Pour slowly over the ice to watch the brown coffee spread through the pale milk.
  4. Stir all the way to the bottom. Use a straw or spoon until the colour looks even. The layers look lovely, but mixing them gives you a more consistent drink from the first sip to the last.
  5. Taste, then make it yours. Add a little more banana milk for more banana flavour, or more hazelnut coffee for a stronger coffee note. There is no need to add water or syrup to the basic combination.

Making just one? Use half of each pack. With a measuring cup, that is 120mL of milk and 115mL of coffee. Follow the packaging’s storage directions for what remains.

Do not empty both full packs into an ordinary ice cup. Together they contain 470mL of liquid before the ice, which can easily overflow. Splitting them is the easy fix.

Keep the shop small—and the budget simple

A noodle cup, a rice ball, cheese, an egg, a coffee pouch and a dessert can easily become more shopping than the meal you wanted. Choose one combination first. The latte is a separate treat, not something every meal needs.

For a controlled spend, set a ₩6,000 meal limit and add the shelf prices before taking an extra drink. That is a suggested spending cap, not a quoted bundle price. If your chosen items go over it, keep the main and swap the companion for something less expensive.

For the latte, remember you are buying milk, coffee and usually the ice cup separately. Compare that total with the store’s ready-made coffee if price matters more than mixing your own.

Our first pick is still the simplest: warm noodles, a tuna-mayo triangle, and a place to sit. Once you know what you like, the next combination is much easier to choose.
