Choose rom&nd The Juicy Lasting Tint for shine, or Peripera Ink The Velvet for a soft matte edge. Honey Dew Melon 27, the rom&nd shade featured here, is a gentle coral you will need to refresh. Velvet gives you bolder red, pink and orange options, plus a muted nude, with more reason to keep the first layer light.

Start with the look you want to wear
This comparison covers The Juicy Lasting Tint, 3.5 g, in shade 27 and classic Ink The Velvet, 4 g, in 08, 16, 24 and 39. The glossy coral and matte shades are different colors, so the useful choice is finish and application style.
That distinction matters if you like gloss but want more color than Honey Dew Melon offers. The Juicy line also has deeper shades: a Grape Bomb 21 reviewer described strong pigment and staining. Soft color is a feature of #27 here, not a rule for every rom&nd tint.

Glossy coral or a matte blur?
The Honey Dew Melon reviews describe light coral, apricot and pink within coral, with a juicy finish. One reviewer liked it alone or beneath another tint as a pale warm base. It is the more appealing choice here if you want the shine to be a noticeable part of the look.

Velvet 08 spreads softly and sets matte, according to its reviewer. A small amount blended from the center makes the red look gentler than a full, defined lip. Shade 16 was too intense alone for its reviewer, who preferred a little at the center over another tint.
For an everyday matte shade, 24 is the quieter option. For a bright orange-coral, 39 is the one to consider. Our four-shade Ink Velvet review puts each color in more detail.
Give the lip photo more weight than the wrist swatch
With Velvet 24, thicker areas on the wrist looked rosier and browner, while thin edges looked coral-beige. On the lips, coral-beige and brown came through more clearly. Several layers moved it toward a milk-tea coral-brown, so application amount is part of choosing the color.
For Honey Dew Melon 27, one reviewer found the shade darker after it settled, while another noticed no change. If the very pale result is your reason for choosing it, compare the fresh and settled color under the same light. Our Honey Dew Melon review includes the closer swatches.
Layering matters too. A tint worn over another color or a lip base is a finished combination, so it may not show what one product looks like on its own. For a simple everyday routine, look for the exact shade worn alone.
How much upkeep feels comfortable?
With The Juicy 27, refreshing the finish is part of the deal. The Naver reviewer liked the shine but described ordinary wear; two UNPA accounts mentioned modest lasting power or a light stain. One reviewer also disliked the tackiness and sweet scent, although another enjoyed the scent.
Velvet rewards a smaller starting amount in the 08 and 16 accounts. That lets you keep a bright color soft at the edges instead of immediately committing to a full lip. Later touch-ups need a separate thought: the 39 reviewer found adding more could feel heavy.

If you are new to the look, our gradient and full-lip guide explains the placement. Starting small is especially useful when the color itself is stronger than you normally wear.
A remaining stain does not keep the whole look
Velvet 08 left visible pink after a meal, which its reviewer appreciated. Some of the original color had worn away, and the stain also marked their fingers. That is an encouraging example for someone content with leftover color, but the unspecified meal and timing do not give it a dependable hour count.
Velvet 39 adds another consideration: color can remain mainly along the lip line, with flakes or an uneven stain depending on lip condition. If texture is your main concern, pay close attention to light applications and later touch-ups in the lip photos, as well as the fresh shine.
Do not let the finish stand in for lip comfort
A moist feel is not the same as a comfortable result for every person. A reviewer of another The Juicy shade, #03, described irritation despite liking its moist feel; rom&nd’s August 2025 notice and February 2026 follow-up addressed wider tint discomfort reports. Stop using a tint that irritates your lips.
For choosing between these two, keep the decision practical: The Juicy 27 for a soft glossy coral you enjoy refreshing; Ink Velvet for a matte color you can control in thin layers. If flakes or heavy touch-ups usually spoil a lip product for you, the Velvet 39 account deserves particular weight.

Choose the exact version
For rom&nd, match The Juicy Lasting Tint with 27 Honey Dew Melon. The older 5.5 g Juicy and separately named ZERO are different options; our version guide explains the labels.
For Peripera, match Ink The Velvet and the shade number. Airy Velvet, Ink Mood Glowy and the slightly runnier Hazy shades 47–49 are outside this comparison.
