Some lip tints give you a juicy shine. Others leave a soft-matte wash of color, or that gently blurred outline you keep saving to your makeup folder. If the shades all look tempting, choosing the finish first makes shopping much easier.
Start with this: do you want shine, a velvety surface or a softer edge? The first two describe the finish. The last also depends on how you apply it—which is why a velvet tint can look beautifully blurred too.

One shade, a softer look and a bolder one
Peripera · Ink The Velvet (classic formula) · 08 · Sellout Red (품절대란)

Peripera · Ink The Velvet (classic formula) · 08 · Sellout Red (품절대란)

These two applications of Ink Velvet 08 are a useful place to start. Across the full lip, the red looks more defined. Blended toward the center, it gives a softer impression. The reviewer preferred the lighter gradient.
So if “blurred” is the look you’re after, you may not need another product. A smaller amount of the tint you already like could get you closer. Our gradient and full-lip tutorial walks through both options.
Pick the part of the look you care about most
For shine: look at the fresh surface as well as the later color. A glossy tint may leave a stain after the shine fades, so those are two different moments in its wear.
For soft matte: look at lip texture and layering. An opaque-looking swatch can be appealing, but a thin coat may give you the smoother everyday finish you want.
For a blurred outline: pay attention to where the color sits. A deeper center and softly blended edges create a different mood from taking the same shade right to the lip line.
Four tint families worth getting to know
rom&nd The Juicy Lasting Tint: for a glossy, colorful lip
rom&nd · The Juicy Lasting Tint · 01 · Pomelo Skin

This is a good starting point if the glossy surface is what draws you to a tint. The range gives you room to choose between a quieter nude and a more noticeable color; the official shade page helps you compare the current options.
27 Honey Dew Melon is the pale coral example in our reviews. Its appeal is the soft color with shine, though the review feedback also raises modest wear and a tackier feel for one user. Choose it for the look, with room for a touch-up in your day.
Peripera Ink Velvet: for soft-matte color you can build
Peripera · Ink The Velvet · official finish image

Classic Ink Velvet makes sense if you prefer a velvety lip to a shiny one. Shade 24 is a muted coral-beige nude. Its wrist swatch looked rosier and browner where the tint was thicker; on the lips, several layers became more milk-tea coral-brown.
Shades 08, 16 and 39 offer stronger-looking color in the reviews we feature. Shade 08 retained some color after a meal, while the shade 39 review found flakes and repeated layers less flattering. A small first coat is a useful starting point, especially when you want a soft edge.

Peripera Ink Mood Glowy: another route to a shiny lip
Peripera · Ink Mood Glowy Tint (older edition) · 24 · Coral Pride (자몽부심)

If you like Peripera but want gloss, Ink Mood Glowy is the family to explore. This photo shows shade 24 from the older edition under elevator lighting: a shiny surface rather than the matte effect of Ink Velvet.
There are older and renewed versions in circulation, so use the Ink Mood Glowy guide to match the shade you like to the right edition. The Velvet versus Glowy comparison is the quick route if you’re choosing between those two finishes.
3CE Blur Water Tint: watery at first, softly blurred after
3CE · Blur Water Tint · Breeze Way (2023)

The interesting part of Blur Water Tint is the contrast between its watery application and its non-glossy finish. The Breeze Way photo sequence from 2023 shows the color at different stages, while the Warmth and Night Talk review gives useful examples of building with thin layers.
It’s worth a closer look if you like a softer finish but don’t want to begin with a thick-looking coat. See the shade and layering guide and 3CE’s product information.
A quick edition check before you fall for a swatch
Original Juicy Lasting Tint, The Juicy Lasting Tint and ZERO are easy to mix up in search results. Ink Mood Glowy also has older and renewed shades. Match the full product name and the shade name as well as the number; our rom&nd edition guide explains the main differences.
Your next step: choose the everyday version of the look
If you keep saving glossy lips, start with a glossy tint. If you prefer a soft-matte surface, start with Velvet. If the blurred outline is the part you love, compare light gradient applications before buying a new formula.
